Team USA Kickboxing was back in action Saturday night as Minneapolis based promotion, Ring Rivals put on a fantastic show featuring a full undercard of amateur kickboxing events and a triple-main-event of USA vs Italy fights. USA’s Lisa Van Ahn faced Italy’s Veronica Vernocchi in a 5-round FCR Kickboxing bout. This was a close fight with Van Ahn wining the early rounds, but Vernocchi turning the aggression on midway through the fight and taking over control. Veronica Vernocchi defeats Lisa Van Ahn by split decision: 47-48, 49-46, 47-48.
In the next USA vs Italy bout, Chris Cichon challenged Italy’s Mirko Antonucci in a 5-round K-1 rules bout. Cichon took control of this bout from the very beginning, dropping Antonucci early with a right hand. He then finished the fight with a head kick knockout that put Antonucci down hard. Chris Cichon defeats Mirko Antonucci by Knockout in Round 1.
In the only pro K-1 rules main event, USA’s Andrew Kapel challenged Italy’s Fabrizio Sacco. This contest easily took fight of the night honors as Sacco showed incredible heart and fighter’s spirit. Kapel landed vicious leg kicks early in the first round and although Sacco made it threw the round, many questioned if he’d be able to continue. Sacco made it out of his corner for the second, but he leg looked badly hurt. Kapel continued pressure with leg kicks and head kicks that dropped Sacco. In the third round Fabrizio Sacco began to battle back with his boxing skills, but another head kick from Kapel ended the fight. Andrew Kapel defeats Fabrizio Sacco by Knockout in Round 3.
